In 2002 I was able to
fulfill a dream of a lifetime and spent nearly
two weeks biking through Provence, France.
I fell in love with the fields of poppies, the
400 square miles of vineyards, the olive groves
and Roman ruins. I sailed past old farm
houses with the famous red-tiled roofs, peered down
from mountain tops at the villages nestled in
the valleys, sipped pastis in cafés in the
evenings as I watched the crowds strolling in
the soft evening light. The trip, arranged
through
Euro-Bike & Walking Tours, was perfect and
exceeded my expectations in every way.
But the best part is that I
was able to stop when I wished, make sketches
and take photos. I kept a journal as I was
eating a lunch of goat cheese, fresh bread and
olives under a roadside tree. When I
returned home, I began a flurry of paintings
which hasn't abated yet. This has also
been the inspiration of further biking and art
trips I've made in my own countryside and
villages. |
