I was riding
along Route 66 in Spencer County when I came upon this bridge at
Rockport. It wasn't even on the map. It's a beautiful, new
suspension bridge. Some people say it looks like a pair of tweezers.
Or would that be two pairs? A friend said, "Yeah, and they ought
to paint it red." So I did. The real bridge is grey steel. I
have a sketch from a different angle but I liked the symmetry of this.

This is the Bridge at
Rockport from a different angle. It's actually sketched from the
Hole in Rock park in Rockport. Those are power plants on
the left which can be seen for miles around. |
In this
photo, I am actually painting beneath the Owensboro bridge. I
rode down 231 and took a service drive under the bridge.
Recent floods from Hurricane Ivan had made it very muddy and it was only
then dry enough for me to ride here. There was a barge parked off
to the right which was also interesting. I guess that the life of
river rats are very similar to those of old salts along the coasts.
